I made it through the first week of school! Yippie! It’s funny how the kids were excited about starting a new school year, but all I did was stress out.
After we moved to our new home earlier this year, we allowed the kids to finish out the remainder of the school year at their old school, which meant driving them daily. My oldest two attended year-round school and the youngest in Pre-K. It all worked out though because my husband works on the side of town the schools were located. Well, this year they are all together, at one school, on a traditional schedule. Finally!!! There was a time I was making three different stops.
So with a new school comes the stress of making new friends, fitting in, getting to know new teachers, and adjusting to the school’s culture. These were all my stresses by the way. So Friday has come, and the first week is over. I’ve filled out 3 packets of information, called the school system transportation department to secure the bus route (although they never told the driver a stop was added so she didn’t show up the first day), made sure all outfits were ironed and fashionable, got everyone washed and in bed on time, made sure the alarm clock was set for 5:30am (bus comes at 6:22am), signed parent/teacher communication folders daily, secured after school care, and prepared dinner. It has been a busy week, but God saw us through and the kids really like their new school.
In the midst of the week, my 9th wedding anniversary seemed to take a back seat to all the chaos of the first week of school jitters. So I stressed over that too of course. But I am very grateful for the husband God has given me who was also knee deep in all the above tasks.
I am still a work in progress, and although my jitters tried to get the best of me, I survived the week. My devotional scripture on Wednesday mellowed me out. It was John 14:27, which says, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid”. This blog is truly my outlet and is helping me think about parenting more effectively and spiritually I’m growing into the mom God wants me to be.
Praying for a safe and prosperous 2015-2016 school year for all!
