Encouragement for Mom

Listening to society, I’m left with the thought that I shouldn’t be emotional; I shouldn’t cry; I shouldn’t become so bothered by the circumstances of motherhood. Why? Because it’s normal, it’s life. I’m supposed to suck it up and move on. Why is that always the response? Why is it not okay to just have a cry fest (yes, that’s what I’m calling it), let those emotions come out and not be penalized for how I feel?

Personally, I think it’s okay. In my opinion, it’s healthy. Now, I wouldn’t suggest you stay in that mode for a long period of time, but if you’ve got to cry, or scream, just let it out. It’s better than holding it inside and pretending that everything is okay.

I had one of those days this past Friday. I just didn’t want to deal anymore. I was an emotional wreck!  I couldn’t think clearly.  I cried until I yelled.  I prayed and asked why me.  I tried to play music to cheer myself up, but that didn’t work, so I cried some more.  It was just not a good day.  And at the end of my cry fest, I realized something.  All I needed was a little encouragement.

I think every mom needs to be encouraged.  It doesn’t matter if she’s a new mom, a mom of one child, a seasoned mom, a stepmom, a foster mom, or a grand mom.  Whatever kind of mom she is, she needs to know that she is doing a good job, that tough times happen, that kids can work your last nerve, that parenting isn’t just for 18 years.  That in spite of everything she is going through, it’s all going to be fine. We can learn something from each other’s story.

Be encouraged, mom!  Your work to care for your family is not in vain.  Your kids think you are awesome (even though they don’t say it). They care about you; they just do what kids do, and that’s sometimes annoying.  Don’t give up on yourself!  They won’t always be so young, they do grow up!  Keep loving them.  Keep praying for them.  Keep teaching them.  Keep training them.  They’ll thank you later and you’ll know you did a great job.  I’m encouraged!

“And let us not not get tired of doing what is right, for after a while we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t get discouraged and give up.” – Galatians 6:9 (Living Bible)

Don’t give up mom!
